- Photograph of James. T. William, born on May 14, 1840 in South Wales. He made his was to Sale Creek, Tennessee in 1866, where he took charge of the mines and brought them to a high state of development. He moved to Chattanooga in 1873, where he worked in mining interests and also served as alderman and chairman of the fire committee. In 1890 he was defeated in his run for mayor, but was appointed police commissioner for three years, after which he retired from politics and devoted himself to running the J. T. Williams Coal Company. He died January 17, 1902.
