- Photograph of John W. James, who was born in Sullivan County on January 31, 1836 and served as a quartermaster in the Union Army. He was elected mayor of Chattanooga in 1874 and in 1875 christened the city's first streetcar. A realtor by profession, he was also director of the gas company and secretary of the City Water Company. He died of pneumonia on February 21, 1898.
