Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, the first national military park, was created by an Act of Congress in 1890 and dedicated in 1895. Orchard Knob was added to the Park in 1894. The majority of the park is in Catoosa and Walker Counties, Georgia but some sections are on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, while others are in and around Chattanooga, Tennessee. 00005882 mounted on verso; dates written on photos.

Man on far right is naturalist Robert Sparks Walker (1878-1960); others unidentified. 2. Log cabin home of Cherokee naturalist Spring Frog (b. 1754). Cabin may have been built as early as ca. 1748; it was restored in 1945 and then changed extensively in 1972. Some sources suggest Spring Frog (also known as Tooan tuh or Tooantuh) came to Chattanooga area in 1776 and built the cabin then. Sanctuary was named for wife of Mr. E. Y. Chapin who gave the land for it in 1945. Mounted with and filed under 00004824.

Log cabin home of Cherokee naturalist Spring Frog (b. 1754). Cabin may have been built as early as ca. 1748; it was restored in 1945 and then changed extensviely 1972. Some sources suggest Spring Frog came to the Chattanooga area in 1776 and built the cabin then. Spring Frog was also known as Tooan Tuh (or Tooantuh) and died at Briartown, Indian Territory. 2. Naturalist Robert Sparks Walker (1878-1960) and Burton Jones (on right) (1879?-1964) christening a tree. Sanctuary wsa named for the wife of E. Y. Chapin who gave the land for it in 1945.
